Uses for Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap
In my natural living resources list I mentioned that my husband uses Dr. Bronner's peppermint castile soap to wash his hair (and as a general purpose body wash).
In case you are wondering, Castile soap is a gentle soap made from vegetable fat/oil such as hemp, palm or olive (opposed to tallow). It is a versatile cleaner that works well with other ingredients as well as alone.
Castile soap is is very versatile and can be used in many different ways. I like the products I buy to serve different purposes. This cuts down on space and cost (and shopping trips!).
Here are a few ways you can use Castile soap:
As shampoo
This works great for my husband's hair. I have not been able to get used to it in my own hair. But for shorter styles, it seems to work well.
As an emergency dish soap
I've used this as a dish soap while camping and it worked quite well. It's also been a great fill-in when I run out of dish soap.
In body scrub
One of the scrubs in my eBook contains Dr. Bronner's Peppermint castile soap. It makes a nice change to regular body scrubs and provides an exfoliate and cleanser all-in-one. Next time you make a sugar scrub, add a tablespoon of Castile soap and see how you like it.
As foaming hand soap
Fill your foaming hand soap dispenser with 1/4 Castile soap and the rest with water. Shake to blend (after you put the lid on!).
In DIY Soft Scrub (to clean the bathroom)
I use Castile soap in my homemade soft scrub. Choosing Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile soap gives it a nice scent.
General Cleaning
Add a few tablespoons of Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile soap to a bucket and fill with warm water. Use the soapy water to clean your cabinets and counter tops.
As a baby wash
Dr. Bronner's also sells a baby mild version of their Castile soap. This is a great option for babies as peppermint is too strong for them.
I'm sure there are lots of other uses waiting to be discovered!
Do you use Castile soap? If so, how?

We are obsessed with Dr. Bronner’s soap!! Our favorite tends to be the eucalyptus scent. It’s fantastic, and seems to last forever!
I’ll have to try the eucalyptus. I’m sure it is good! I use my eucalyptus essential oil all the time.
Great reminder that Dr. Bronners is good for so many things. I love that I can refill it at my local co-op!
I use the mild as a shampoo – 3/4 cup castile soap, 3/4 cup water, 1/2 tsp. olive oil, 10 – 15 drops of tea tree oil. Mix in an empty castile soap bottle. We used the ‘no poo’ option for a number of months, but my daughters hair didn’t respond as well as I would have liked, so we started using this and we love it. Shake it up before using and pour a little (dimed size amount) in palm of hair. Put on hair and use PALMS of your hands to lather all over your head. Then, we use the foam from our hair to wash our bodies and shave. Then we rinse. We also use a little lemon squeezed in water for a rinse. This has saved us money and cured my daughters dry scalp. I don’t have dry scalp and it works great on my hair too.
