Why Safe Skincare is Important
Did you know that the United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938?
Or that most beauty products are not regulated at all? No safety testing is required before going to market?
The Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful (including ingredients that have been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, and endocrine disruption) in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids’ bodies every single day, day after day.
It's almost as if we are part of a grand experiment.
I'm not ok with that!
How about you?
Why is this a big deal?
As you probably know, the skin is the largest organ of the body. What goes on the skin goes IN the body and ends up in the bloodstream.
And they get there very quickly too.
These products are being used on a daily basis and building up over time.
The build up over time is what we really need to be concerned about.
This toxic load is causing our bodies to work harder, disrupting hormones and in some cases, adding to cancer risk.
The great thing is, we can eliminate all of those factors by simply switching our personal care products for natural, non-toxic versions.
I've been searching for non-toxic skincare and cosmetic companies for quite a while now and am happy to have discovered a few excellent ones. Hooray!
I've also found that's it's possible to make a good number of skincare products at home., which is great.
Today I wanted to take a minute to let you know about a company I am very excited about. I haven't said much about them yet, because I was checking them out… in fact, I've been using their products for over a year now!
But, I had to be sure.
I am now.
So let me tell you, I ADORE Beautycounter!
Have you heard of them?
As I said, I've been using their products for over a year now and am very impressed.
Beautycounter is a wonderful company that strives to create non-toxic beauty products.
They are also on a mission to change the beauty industry and even went to congress to lobby for better safety standards.
You can read more about their story here.
This company has a lot of integrity!
They test each batch of product and refuse to sell it if it doesn't meet their safety standards.
And they've banned more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals from their own products.
