why I love my essential oil diffuser

Diffusers are an excellent way to get essential oils into the air. Once the essential oils are in the air, they can be inhaled as you go about your usual activities. Certain essential oils also do a decent job of removing toxins and  odors from the air.

A good diffuser will create a cool mist that allows the essential oil to be released into the air without being damaged by heat.

Some of my favorite benefits of using an essential oil diffuser:

  • provides an easy way freshen the air
  • helps with focus for study/school work
  • aids illness recovery
  • removes toxins from the air
  • a toxin-free method of adding scent to the room (no more chemical sprays!)
  • using with certain oils can calm stressed moms or overactive children
  • help improve respiration

I use the H2EO Ultrasonic Diffuser Multi-Colored Lights Model. (The blue lights model seems to be the same and is $10 cheaper).

It is fairly expensive, but is very useful to me. It took a long time for me to decide to buy one of these, but now I use it so much I am convinced of it's value. In fact, I'd really like to have at least one more (to use in another room).

This particular diffuser allows me to adjust the settings to control the output. I can have a light, medium, or heavy output of “mist.” It also has lights, which I usually turn off, but they are fun to use some of the time (especially for a sick little one).

How diffusers work

The description of H2EO Ultrasonic Diffuser on Amazon gives a good explanation of how cold mist diffusers work:

“Using ultrasonic “cold mist” technology, high frequency sound (100 times beyond human hearing) generates patterns of movement that create “sonic bubbles” in the water in the diffuser's bowl. When these bubbles implode, nano-droplets of water are released from the surface. Each is enveloped by a fine coating of essential oil as they float up and rapidly become part of the atmosphere of your room.Perfect for enjoying your favorite essential oil aromas. Or, you can diffuse such small amounts of essential oil that the aroma is barely perceptible. Even at such low concentrations, you can benefit from the therapeutic effects of essential oils, and help to restore balance to the microbial population in your indoor environment.”

Here are a few good essential oil combos to use in the diffuser:

My diffuser suggests 5 drops of essential oil, be sure to check the instructions n your own diffuser for specific amounts and directions.

plant therapy essential oils
(This 14 essential oil set from Plant Therapy is great for beginners)
Colds and flu

2 drops Eucalyptus
1 drop Peppermint
1 drop Orange
1 drop Lemon

Remove toxins from the air

Young Living Purification essential oil blend is said to dispel unpleasant odors and clear the air of impurities. I've used it and it seems to work well.

Illness
Diffuse Thieves (Young Living),  Germ fighter, or On Guard (doTerra).

(It's also great to dilute these with a carrier oil and rub on the bottom of feet.)

Clear Sinuses

2 drops eucalyptus
2 drops peppermint
2 drops tea tree

Mental Fatigue

Diffuse frankincense or a combination of 1 drop eucalyptus, 2 drops lemon, and 2 drops peppermint

For relaxation

Diffuse 4 drops lavender or chamomile essential oil (or a combination of both, using 2 drops each)

Aid Sleep

Diffuse lavender or an essential oil blend formulated for sleep (such as doTerra's Serenity blend)

doterra serenity calming essential oil blend

These are just a few combinations, the possibilities are endless!
