Bath fizzies (also known as bath bombs) are fun to use. My children especially enjoy seeing them fizz and dissolve in the water.

This recipe is very simple and a little different to traditional bath bombs (traditional ones use less oil).

The amount of oil in this recipe for bath fizzies gives them a moisturizing quality. It also means they take a little extra time to dry out enough to remove from the mold.

DIY Lavender Bath Fizzies

This recipe is adapted from one found in Eco Beauty.

You will need:

1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup Citric Acid
1/2 cup Cornstarch or arrowroot powder
1/2 cup Sweet almond, grapeseed, or sunflower oil (buy oils on Mountain Rose Herbs or Amazon)
1/4 tsp. lavender powder (optional)
12 drops lavender essential oil
1 tsp. vitamin E oil

Large bowl to mix in
Silicone mold or ice cube tray (the silicone tray works much better than the ice cube tray because it is shallow and the bottom is flexible, so the bath fizzies can be pushed out once dry) – this is the silicone tray I used.

Method:

Add dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl and mix well.

Add the oil and essential oils and stir to combine.

This will form a crumbly type of dough.

Put the mixture into the silicone mold and pack down. If using an ice cube tray, only fill about half way up (or it will take forever to dry out).

Leave to dry out for 48 hours.

After 48 hours, remove one bath fizzy to check if it is dry all the ay through. If it is still damp, it may fall apart. If the bath fizzy is sufficiently dry, remove the rest from the mold.

Store in an airtight container.

To Use:
Drop one or two bath fizzies into the bath. Soak and enjoy!

Store bath fizzies in an airtight container.

Will store for up to six months.

  1. Hi – This recipe looks great. Can you tell me what lavender powder is? Is it something you make or do you need to buy it. Thank you.
