Family Fun: Have a Family Workout Night!
I'm not sure how fun having a family workout actually sounds, but it really can be a blast. I promise.
It's also quite hilarious.
We are having one tonight! So, just imagine us leaping around the living room. It's quite a sight, I can assure you.
There are many ways to have a family workout session: set up a circuit or obstacle course, do a DVD together, or run races in the backyard.
Today I want to share with you a simple game that we have been playing for years. I don't remember how it started, but I know it began back when my oldest was only five (or so) years old.
Our Family Workout Game
Our family workout game is basically follow the leader with an exercise twist.
We put on some music with a good beat and each take turns “teaching” the class.
If that sounds boring, let me tell you, kids can come up with some pretty funky workout moves!
Pretending to be the teacher is a lot of fun, especially for younger kids who enjoy having a turn telling others what to do.
The key to making the family workout game a success is for mom and dad to really get into it. This sets the tone for the kids and they will follow along.
Change teachers as often as you like.
We will sometimes instruct for an entire song and other times only a minute or two.
It's a great way to fit in exercise with kids underfoot.
Do you have any family fitness ideas to share? I'd love to hear them!
Hi! Would you mind if I share a link to this post in my July Activity Calendar for Kids?!! Let me know! Thanks! 🙂
Sure. Share away.
Thanks, Stacie!
we do exercise lately as its been raining and we’re all stuck inside! So – the garage has become an obstacle course. Aside from jumping rope and yoga mats it’s jumping jacks, push ups, and sit ups.
We encourage the kids to mimic whichever exercise we’re doing at the time. They think it’s a huge game and it’s so funny to watch!
