It’s National Stress Awareness Day and I think we are all feeling the effects of stress right now. Am I right?
One way to find some calm is to take a minute and sip a warm mug of this honey sweetened, stress-reducing adaptogenic latte.
I’ve included ashwagandha for it’s helpful adaptogenic properties, but something like reishi mushroom powder would work well too.
As I mention in our post about adaptogens, Ashwagandha is known as the “soothing adaptogen” and is thought to help reduce inflammation, calm anxiety, and improve memory. Sounds like something I need right now!
This soothing adaptogen latte is delicious as a warm beverage, but can also be served over ice.
1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
½ tsp. ashwagandha powder
1 tsp. cacao powder
pinch ground cloves
½-1 tsp Manuka honey (to taste)
½ Tbsp. coconut oil
Place milk, cinnamon, cloves, cacao powder and ashwagandha powder in a small saucepan and whisk to combine. Warm over medium-high heat. Continue to whisk occasionally until warmed through.
Remove from heat and allow to cool briefly.
Place honey, coconut oil, and almond butter in a heatproof blender. And pour warmed milk mixture into the container. To keep the beneficial properties of Manuka honey intact, it’s best to add once mixture has cooled to at least 150F. Optimal temp for maintaining benefits is below 135F.
Blend until well combined and frothy.
Pour into a mug and sprinkle with extra cinnamon, if desired.
