Frugal Homemade Skin Care with Oats
We all know that oatmeal is a frugal breakfast. Much cheaper than boxed cereal, oats can be turned into cookies, porridge, or (our favorite) baked oatmeal.
Oats are also helpful in treating skin conditions such as eczema and make a nice scrub to soften and soothe skin.
The following are just three ideas for using oats as part of a frugal skin care routine:
Oatmeal Bath
Pour 1/2 cup of oats into a large cloth tea bag or into the center of a coffee filter or circle of fabric (as I did in these bath tea bags).
Close the coffee filter or fabric circle with a rubber band and add to a bath tub filled with warm water.
Soak for at least 15 minutes.
Honey oat scrub
½ cup oats
1 Tbsp. honey
1Tbsp. cider vinegar
1 tsp. ground almonds
Moisten face with a warm washcloth then apply mixture to skin avoiding the eyes. Let mixture dry, then remove with a warm, damp washcloth.
Oat and honey milk bath
½ cup rolled oats
¼ cup powdered milk
2 Tbsp. honey
Place all ingredients in small, muslin bag (or a circle of fabric or cheesecloth). Hang the bag under the faucet as you fill the tub, so running water goes through the oats. Soak for at least 15 minutes.

LOVE it! Hopefully when I visit my parents this week I’ll have time to grab a nice relaxing bath. I think I’ll try the oat and honey milk bath!
Cool 🙂 Now I just need to find the time to take a long bath!
Great recipes. Thanks for sharing.

I’m new to homemade beauty products. I’m curious to know what the benefits of an oat or oat/honey bath are? What a savings these would provide over my current products!
great way to get rid of old oats!
